I had the chance to live in “The Lone Star State” or as you probably know it Texas where I still have part of my beloved family.
At my arrival, I immediatly fell in love with the state but also with all the people I have met. Everything is bigger in Texas even the heart of the texans, the world may talk about their acceptance of fireguns … don’t be stuck on that.
Texas is full of amazing and generous people. Well, here is a bucket list split by cities of FEW things I judge unmissable if you travel in Texas !
Let’s start with my hometown :
The Galleria Mall
Let’s go shopping downtown Houston and be a real texan, people there shop often and I have to say that I do too !
The Galleria Mall is amzingly big and luxurious, you can find an Iceskating rink, restaurants, luxurious boutiques such as : Dior, Hugo Boss, Chanel, etc …
But also “cheaper” shops like : Forever21, Hollister, Abercrombie & Fitch, Sephora, …
You could spend an entire day walking in the Galleria Mall, if you need further information : I’ts here !
Houston Livestock is an annual event, a rodeo and its famous World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest. This event is extremly known in the state of Texas and brings a lot of people : you can’t miss it.
What is on the line up : funfair, concerts, Bar-B-Que (hell yeah !), Coors and mechanical bull ! It is so much fun, I had the chance to see big rock / country star at this event like the ZZ Top and Sheryl Crow.
Bar-B-Que in The Lone Star State is not something to mess with, they sure to cook good meat on the grill and add an amazing marinde on top of it all !
During the Houston Livestock, the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que contest takes place where Bar-B-Que professional team compete in different categories to win the trophy.
The rodeo, itself, is a “not to be miss” thing ! All ages are represented and can participate : kids, teens and adults.
When adults tie up cows, kids tie up ewes and when adults ride bull, kids are riding sheeps ! Houston Livestock starts at the end of February to middle of March : more information
Tubing sur le Rio Frio
Summer in Texas can be very hot and if you need to cool-off, I suggest to have a ride on the Rio Frio river, the river is located at a 4 hours and 30 minutes drive from Houston but like they say : You got to do what you got to do ! You won’t ride the river on a boat but on a tube.
What is tubing in Texas ? Well, you grab your friends, you grab a tube and you add a special tube for beers and snacks and you are ready to go on the river !
The ride can take half of your day or the entire day, you decide. A bus brings you and your crew to the starting point and brings y’all back when you are done. You don’t have to worry about nothing.
What will you need ?
- A tube : buy it or rent it
- Water shoes : the river is rocky
- Sun cream : it’s so damn hot, don’t be a fool protect your skin
- A tube for snacks / beers / music : it’s so damn hot, don’t be a fool drink beer
Little advice : Tie up your tubes in order to still have it near you or a friend in case of falling off of it, I am just saying …
